Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Supervise staff of one Junior Accountant.


Financial Reporting

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close and produce financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile all general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers and maintain existing work papers.
  • Responsible for all deferred revenue and rent work papers and prepare appropriate journal entries.
  • Assist in establishing finance policies in accounts payable, corporate card, travel and entertainment, purchasing matrix and other policies as needed 
  • Ensure proper internal controls and adherence to finance policies.



  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accurate corporate card reconciliations
  • Prepare cash flow forecast and monitor daily cash balance
  • Assist in completion of annual financial statement audit, preparing schedules, and responding to information and data requests
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax filings including 1099s, payroll filings, etc.


Payroll & Financial Analysis

  • Perform both the payroll processing and recording the corresponding financial information in the general ledger through Paylocity on a biweekly basis.
  • Works in conjunction with the Human Resource department on payroll/HR related issues.
  • Primary contact with DoE field offices regarding all financial information relating to Pre-K for All programs.  
  • Complete city funded budget reports & actuals for Pre-K for All programs.
  • Provide other ad-hoc analysis as requested by CFO


  • BA in Accounting, CPA or Masters degree preferred
  • Three to five years prior experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Superior quantitative skills

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience using QuickBooks and Paylocity preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus
